In the dark night, in the house of death,

I saw lights.

Shining, too beautiful

Sunlight, all-seeing,

Life-giving, enabling vision.

Moonlight, shining from the soul-gate,

The house of the dear ancestors.

Firelight in my heart,

Beloved light in my darkness.

Rushlight in my hand,

Light in the heart of my friend.

In that dark night my heart burned.

In that house of death my heart sang.

The ruling women of Gomasóra

Ate and ate in the fat years

The ruling women of Gomasóra

Ate and ate in the thin years

Heartlessly the priestesses

Left children in the forest

Heartlessly the ruling women

Governed the people

The time of the flood came

Deghóm offered help

The fat women condemned

Deghóm to death by drowning

The time of the flood came

Gomasóra said “no, no”

The fat women condemned

Gomasóra to death by drowning

Deghóm, milk-sister,

Great Láko, milk-brother

They lived in the house of Pérha,

In the little village on the black river.

The bad men kept Deghóm

In the house of darkness

Duties of leadership kept Láko

Down at Sudaméra

Láko was in the south-lands

But Deghóm travelled to the north-lands

To return the third child to his milk-mother

Deghóm returned to the new village

For the sake of Deghóm, Láko

Travelled across the middle world

But Láko fell and was injured

He was sick unto death

But Deghóm said

Do not die, do not die

And Láko said in his sickness,

My beloved, Deghóm

They sought their birth-village

They sought it near the black river

In the place where they were children

In that village they were joined.

Deghóm, clan-mother

Great Láko, clan-father

In that village they were joined

The little village near the black river

១

In the time of Deghóm

The great sea, the sweet sea

The beautiful land, the fat land

Enjoyed so many fat years

The cruelty of men was filled up

Young mothers

Did not love their children

Old fathers

Did not save their children

And Deghóm

Saw the tears of the sky

And Deghóm

Spoke to the villages by the sea

But the great villages

Did not listen to Deghóm

The eyes of the sky filled with tears

And the tears of the sky became too great

The tears of the sky filled the salt sea

And the salt sea became a flood

A salt river flowed into the sweet sea

The coastlands were drowned

In that time two hundred villages were no more

Two hundred men beneath the salt sea

Beneath the waves of the sea they died

In hunger they suffered

From poisoned fish they sickened

The cruel villages were no more

The pleasant land was no more

In the time when the coastlands died

In the day of the flood
